The Nintendo Switch Console connects to your TV, undocks it, and instantly transforms into a portable console using its included 6.2-inch screen. The Nintendo Switch Console's screen is a multi-touch display, opening up new gameplay possibilities for compatible games.

Battery life varies depending on the game and usage conditions, from 3 hours for a game like The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild to 6 hours for others. When on the go, to recharge your console, simply plug the power adapter into the USB Type-C port.

Joy-Con controllers expand gameplay possibilities

The two Joy-Con controllers can be used independently, one in each hand, or together to form a single controller by snapping them onto either side of the Joy-Con grip. They can be attached to the main console for portable use, or shared with a friend for two-player gameplay in compatible games.

Each Joy-Con has all the buttons needed to function as a full-fledged controller. Each includes an accelerometer and a gyroscope, allowing the motion sensor functionality of both Joy-Cons to be used independently. The left Joy-Con has a screenshot button that allows players to instantly take in-game screenshots to share with friends on social media.

The right Joy-Con features an NFC area for interacting with amiibo, as well as an infrared motion camera that can detect the distance, shape, and movement of nearby objects in games designed to use this feature. For example, it can detect how far away a player's hand is, or what shape it takes. Both Joy-Con include advanced HD rumble, which allows for more realistic vibrations than ever before in compatible games.

The effect is so detailed that the player can, for example, feel the distinct vibrations of ice cubes clinking in a glass by shaking the Joy-Con. With HD rumble, you'll experience a level of realism that images and sound alone can't replicate.

A console geared towards local and online multiplayer

Up to eight consoles can be connected to each other via local wireless play. Starting April 28, it will be possible to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with up to eight players in local wireless mode. You can stand the console up anywhere using the built-in stand, and detach the Joy-Con controllers to share the multiplayer experience without the need for a TV. The console supports Wi-Fi multiplayer.
